Purim commemmorates the deliverance of the Jews in Persia during the time of King Ahasuerus (or Xerxes, in the Western delineation).
One of my favourite aspects of this holiday is remembering Queen Esther's conversation with her uncle Mordecai. Now both Esther and Mordecai were Jews, and one of Ahasuerus' courtiers Haman plotted to destory the Jewish residents of Persia. The plot was discovered and Mordecai urged Esther, who had become Queen after Queen Vashti's deposal, to plead with the King to spare her people. Esther was anxious of course, and Mordecai responded with this comment (my paraphrase):
Who knows but that you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
That is the clearest statement of life purpose I believe I have ever seen, and an inspiration to us all to discover and to live the purpose for which we are on this planet-whatever that purpose may be.
To commemorate Purim, I'm reposting the Purim QP's and tags:

Here is a Quick Page I made for Purim (sunset March 9 to sunset March 10, 2009) commemorating the deliverance of the Jews in Persia due to the pleas of Queen Esther, herself a Jewess, to King Ahasuerus (Xerxes), and a Purim Purpose Tag. The quote is found in the Book of Esther, Chapter 4.
